LAX PARKING GARAGES ELEVATOR REPLACEMENT
Los Angeles, CA 2012 - 2017
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), parking garages were built approximately four to six decades ago. Anderson Barker was selected as the executive architect for the $48 million LAX Parking Garages Elevator Replacement Project. The seven parking structures were built between 1967 to 1984 and were difficult for users to navigate to find their way to each terminal after leaving their cars. Our assignment was to redesign and rebuild twenty-eight elevator shafts and stairwells to make a better experience for users. The project consisted of demolishing each stairwell and elevator shaft and rebuilding in compliance with current accessibility (ADA) compliance. Wayfinding was improved through large graphics, visual and audible systems. The project was built over a thirty-six-month period to maintain full parking operations during construction.
