CENTURY BOULEVARD BEAUTIFICATION AND PEDESTRIAN SAFETY PROJECT
Inglewood, CA 1999 - 2012
The Century Boulevard Beautification Project was conceived and designed by Michael Anderson of Anderson Barker who envisioned the three-mile starting at the 405 Freeway going three miles east to the city of Inglewood border. The project’s purpose was to beautify the corridor, build pedestrian and vehicular safety features to reduce vehicle-pedestrian incidents, and attract new development and investors to the commercial corridor. The East mile of the project is an existing residential corridor, and this was improved through new sidewalks, landscaped medians, and ADA-compliant sidewalks. New streetlight fixtures included smaller pedestrian light fixtures to light the sidewalk the three-mile length making walking safe and night-time walking.
We secured funding for the project with $5 million from Los Angeles World Airports and $3 million from the federal Department of Transportation (DOT) for engineering services and obtained the federal E-76 Authorization on behalf of the city of Inglewood.
